This Moment

Linking up with Soule Mama for this moment.

I'm enjoying a few more happy days in my home state before needing to return to Canada.  But I'll be back in this space soon with some post Christmas fun and some works in progress.  We all had a wonderful (exhausting) Christmas and we're now getting ready to slow down into that wintery feeling.  The photo is from a solo, and silent walk down the street.  "My beach"

See you back here very soon!

Gratitude Sunday

I'm glad to be joining Taryn today for Gratitude Sunday.

{Sunday's heartfelt tradition. A time to slow down, to reflect, to be grateful. A list of gratitudes.}

If you would like to join us, see below.

Our gratefulness feeds one another.

This week I have felt grateful for:

The gorgeous sun rises we've been having.  Every morning this week there was a bright pink sky.

Our view over the city.

The very light, glittery snowflakes that have been falling for two days.  Very little on the ground though.

I am almost done merry making.  I have one doll to finish and all the rest is complete.  Actually, it feels bitter sweet.  I've enjoyed having a deadline of Christmas.

My very own craft room.

The simplicity we are trying to achieve this season.

My husband for forcing me to go to the gym even when I wasn't up to it.  I'm feeling happier this week just because I did.

Endorphins!

That my children are safe and healthy here with us.

God bless all the families/friends that have been affected by this weeks tragedy in CT.  I am still in shock by these horrible acts, tears flow all around the world.

Tragedy

Such a sad couple of days.  With the tragedy in CT, we are taking time to reflect and reset priorities.  I have friends of friends who have lost a child in this massacre.  I cannot imagine the pain.  How does one go on when your child has been taken from the world?  What do you do the next day, the next month, the next year?  I can't imagine...I am sending out a prayer for all.

Elfing

Over the river and through the woods to grandmothers house we go....well not quite yet.  I have just five more days to finish everything for Christmas.  Once we get home to Maine there won't be much time for elfing.  So right now I am using every spare moment I can to create.  If only nap time could last a little longer.  Here's what I/we have been working on...

I finally finished one of the dolls...I love it!  I think she looks a bit like an alien but I'm sure my daughter will be fond of her.

Her hair was the hard part...several hours!  And I still have one doll to complete..haven't even started on her hair.

Besides the dolls, my girls will be getting a Maine made kitchen set.  Beautiful!  So I am making the food to go along with it.  I'm not a fan of plastic food sold in stores and I'm really trying to stay away from junky toys this year.

I've seen these Waldorf inspired puzzle suns, rainbows and ocean waves a lot and decided this was a good gift for Violet since we are working on colors.

And ornaments for teachers from Hazel

We've also been doing some baking...some of these will be gifts but I find with two little girls that most of our baked things will be eaten well before the big day!!

Gross!

I think we are doing a pretty good job of creating special gifts this year.  It has felt so good, avoiding the stores was a big goal of mine!
I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season!  Is there anything you are working on?  I would love to read about it!

Vintage Christmas and crafting

Today I thought I would share a few of my favorite Christmasy things.  We have two homes to decorate this year since we are spending half of December in Canada.  Christmas and New Years will be spent in Maine.  So I've decided to decorate our "Canada house" with vintage decorations, which I have found to be very expensive!  But here are some of my favorites...are you a vintage fan too?

Not even sure I can bring myself to hang these...what if they get smashed?  We do have two little sets of hands in this house!

Just found the following at the local thrift shop.  Makes me so happy!  I could look at it all day.  Cheesy, I know.

This little hand made gnome dates back to the 50's.  A little creepy, yes?

I guess my style would be creepy gnomes/elves!  Found at the thrift store.

Elfie story found here

Our current favorite Christmas read. We found this one on Amazon for 1 penny!

My vintage inspired dolls for the girls' Christmas gifts.  Still plenty of work on these two.  The idea of adding hair makes me a wee bit nervous!

The dolls were the easy part but the dresses are starting to stress me out.  I have remade this dress twice.  Fortunately they are small!

That's all for today!  Are you ready for Christmas?  Are you making anything special?  I would love to hear about it!
