Stuffed Turkey

The girls have a week of vacation for Thanksgiving.  A little excessive I think!  But we are busy getting ready to give thanks.  I braved the shopping this morning.  And then we got to work on these little turkeys.  Pretty easy to make, my four year old needed a lot of help but the older one did hers by herself.

We wrapped a balled up shopping bag in painters tape.  Any roundish shape works.  Masking tape would be better since it's not blue.  The blue of the painters tape was difficult to cover with brown paint.

We painted two coats of brown paint for the body and simply added eyes, and a bit of yarn with glue. The beak is just a triangle cut from brown paper bag.

Glue feathers to the back.

So proud!

Bed hack

Before we renovated our house we had one very small bedroom and one odd attic bedroom.   The house was originally a cottage by the I guess that explains the size.  During the planning phase of our remodel we decided that we needed to have three bedrooms.  We now have three bedrooms!  Our little Violet's bedroom is teeny tiny however.  It wouldn't even hold a traditional twin size bed!  We knew we had to go custom but just before hiring someone we decided to attempt to make a bed ourselves.  We love the results.

Our supplies included two sets of these Martha Stewart cubbies.  We assembled them and turned them on their side just as you see in this picture.  We bought seven of the canvas drawers.  A piece of plywood.  A 2x4 piece of wood and various screws.  I'm not positive what the exact total of this project was but it's about $200.  And it makes a really solid little bed.

Really easy set up.  This bed was completely done in about two hours.  After assembling the two sets of cubbies my husband screwed them together end to end so they won't separate.  He had a piece of plywood cut to fit.  One side of the plywood was screwed to the cubbies and the other side was attached to the wall using a 2x4 underneath for support.

Under the bed there is now a lot of space.  Both girls can play in it together and they've named it their kids club.

We adore the results!  We did order a custom mattress so that will be on it's way in just a few more days.  For now she has her old crib mattress and that's been working perfectly.

Yarn Along

I'm joining for the second week in a row with the yarn along.  I have to say I'm so thrilled with this new craft!  I love to sew and make everything from clothing to quilts but sometimes contemplating pulling all of my supplies out of the closet is a bit much.  However, this knitting thing is so simple!  Yarn and needles and done!
I've finished last weeks knit but I need to add the button.  I didn't realize there would be a specific way to do this with knits.  And I then started an in the round make with some huge chunky yarn.  Or course, one of my daughters has staked claim to this one as well.

As far as reading well...there hasn't been much lately!  But I have a few books in my kindle just waiting for me to stop knitting.  A Girl of Limberlost and Simplicity Parenting are both waiting to be finished.
Leave a link so I can visit your yarn along!

Argh Matey!  We are very much into treasure around here.  Any kind of treasure.  So being from Maine much of the time said treasure is seaglass and sea pottery.  I didn't realize until a friend told me recently that there are people who've never heard of either.  Well, of course!  Since some people live near no bodies of water.
Although the temperature is slowly dropping around these parts we still get to the beach as much as possible.  What does a person do with so much seaglass?  I have some projects that I've been working on.  And hopefully an etsy shop will appear soon!

First ever...

Yarn along!  Ginny at Small Things has had a weekly yarn along for years now. I've  always wanted to join but it wasn't until about two weeks ago that I finally learned to knit.  It may be the last craft/art that I have left to learn.  I love ALL crafts, art, sewing, name it and it seems as though I've tried every medium.

So here's a picture of what's going to be a cowl for Hazel.  I was making it for me but she insisted it be hers.  Ok then!

I'm so new at this I have no idea if I'm doing it right.  I'm not using a pattern (obviously) but just working on stitches.  A question for you, how do I not knit so tightly?

My first button hole!  Does it look right?  Either way it's been fun!  See you next week knitters!

Almost 2 years?!

Hello, hello!  How does it go?

It's been such a long time since I've been in this space.  I thought about creating a new blog altogether but then decided that I really liked this one so I'll keep it going.  I've missed selfishly talking about my life!
I feel like I fell off the face of the earth.  Actually, I guess I became so busy with life that there wasn't much computer time in the recent past.

If there are still any followers out there here's what I've been up to in pictures;
Lots of love, vacations, a new family pet and the most exciting thing of all, we moved back to our home in the U.S. and renovated it.  I'm talking a big renovation, which is just wrapping up and I'll be sure to document here!

I'm happy to be back in this space and I hope you'll join me!

What I Ate Wednesday

Being accountable for what I eat is really paying off.  A couple weeks into my clean way of eating and I'm feeling great!  But oh the salads can get boring.  I definitely need to look into healthy recipes and do some preparing for snacks.

Yesterday was not the best meal day.  I was supposed to go out with the whole family for my nephews birthday dinner.  Just as we were leaving my two year old had a meltdown.  I felt bad but decided we needed to skip the party.  She was mad and frustrated as was I.  There may have been tears from us both.  As a result we ate boxed Mac and Cheese for dinner!  Yuck, I know.  I haven't eaten it in years and eew I really wasn't missing anything!

Here's how the day went:
Steel cut oats and a bit too much maple syrup!  Mmm

Kale chips for lunch as well as cashews and an apple
